The Romans were very eclectic, you could expect to see architectural examples in Roman cities that reflected much of the architecture of the ancient near east. Of course the Romans are credited with the invention of cement and domes, therefore they were able to build more lasting and elaborate structures than other civilizations in their world. Yes, you would see temples(such as the Parthenon); arenas (the Colosseum); aqueducts; public centers (the Forum); Doric, Ionic and Corinthian columns (all 3 featured in THE Colosseum in Rome); 2 and 3 story buildings; sewers, and so on. What isn't generally known is that many Roman cities (although not Rome) were laid out on the grid system, with streets running east to west and avenues running north to south (just as were their army campgrounds). The reason Rome was not built on the grid system was that this city was laid out, at the request of the Romans, by Etruscan priests (haruspics) B.C. The Etruscan ritual was rather elaborate and too lengthy for this discussion.

Hope this helps.
