As far as I can tell, there are several different kinds of alcohol dehydrogenase; the one you'd want would be specific to primary alcohols (R-CH2-OH). However, all this would do would be to increase the amount of acetaldehyde in the bloodstream, which is also toxic. Cysteine can auto-oxidize in the blood, thus creating hydroxyl free radicals. These, too, are toxic in large amounts and cysteine is also associated with neuron toxicity due to this effect. So, overall, you're probably better off with plain old alcohol, as long as you don't overdo it.
