HI Ahmed. In the USA, ther are both public and private universities. Private universities tend to be a lot more expensive than public ones. When going to a public university, tuition is cheapest if you are a resident of the state in which it is located. Harvard is private and, I'm told, very expensive. You can get a very good education at many public universities. I got my Master's at a public university in New Jersey and it was an excellent program.

No, there is a differentiation between public and private. Public schools are endowed by the state in which they were founded, and often have lower tuitions (at least for in-state students). Private universities are endowed by private revenue and donation. However, being a great school and being a public school is not mutually exclusive. Some schools like University of Virginia or University of California-Berkeley are some of the finest schools in the nation. However, the most recognizable schools in the US are private (i.e. Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Johns Hopkins, Georgetown, etc.)

Harvard is private. As a comparison, their tuition is around US$ 42000 a year. Whereas a public school could be up to $30000/year less, if you are from that state.

Nope, there are public and private universities. The public universities are partially funded by the states they are in, so tuition costs are a lot less expensive at public universities than private ones. However, private universities tend to have smaller class sizes, nicer dorms, etc. If someone wants to go to college, the type of university they choose depends on what they can afford and which schools offer the type of degree they want.

There are Public and Private schools in the US. Harvard is a private school.

The difference is that most Public schools are subsidized by the state government in some form or another, while Private schools don't have the government money. Private schools are, therefore, more expensive than Public.

Predominatly there is no difference in the two in the united stated as far as the students are conserned. State funded schools have tenure systems to retain employees while the much higher tuition private schools pay more and attract better instructors. Often private schools are owned by large organizations like religious institutes. BYU is owned by the LSD church and Saint Mary's by the Sisters of the Holy Cross. Federal aid is still available at these schools and are under the jurisdiction of state cirriculum.
