She never used to like milk until she started eating puree at 6 months, she started off ok then she decided she loves milk and refuses puree point blank most of the time. Every now and again she will eat. She is not gaining weight much and i dread every meal as it feels like a fight. I have tried changing temperatures, eating positions, distractions, finger food dipped in puree, and many more.... any one have advice or experience??

Firstly: babies under the age of one year, and possibly later, do not require solid food for nutrition. They get everything they need from breastmilk or formula. Food is for learning and fun, if it isn't fun for her what is the POINT?

Now if you are *actually* giving your baby cow's milk you need to stop immediately and give your baby breastmilk or formula. Cow's milk WILL cause malnutrition and slow weight gain at this age. It is NOT a replacement for formula.

8 month old is definitely old enough for table food. And put some flavour in it! Don't expert her to eat what you wouldn't eat. Have you tasted baby-food? Blech!!!! I have always given my son table food. Never baby-food. He loves spices and garlic. Just cook with the minimum amount of salt.

However, and I can NOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH! Formula or breastmilk are key for optimal growth and nutrition. Solid food should not be replacing them. You should be monitoring formula/breastmilk intake if your daughter is not gaining enough weight!

"6 - 7 months Offer solids once a day, at most. Many start out offering solids every few days or even less often.

7 - 9 months Watch baby's cues - this is particularly easy if baby nurses beforehand and most/all of the solids are offered to baby to self-feed. Increase solids gradually if baby is interested, with a maximum of 2 meals per day. "

What kind of "puree" are you feeding this child. Does it taste good enough for you to eat (would you like to eat it all the time)? What my wife and I did to promote better success at feeding time was to throw away the baby food, and puree our own cooking (that has a little seasoning in it). You need to avoid really spicy stuff, but regular food is much cheaper, and it takes very little time to get things ready. I guarantee the kid will eat it better. I just chunk things in the blender and use good sense to make sure the baby doesn't get any big chunks, etc.. By the time your child gets teeth, she will be chewing something that she already like to eat, and you won't have to buy expensive tasteless baby food. Good luck.

My nephew was like that too. My sister bought all of this baby food and he wouldn't eat any of it. It's ok, he later began to eat some of the toddler foods when he turned 13 months but just give him fresh foods like bananas, cooked green beans, etc. As long as he can chew them up, and you help him along with mashing, and chopping food up, it'll be ok. Buy regular unsweetened apple sauce, etc. The thing to remember is to not feed him foods he could be allergic to, fish, nuts, eggs. If he's already tried them and he's ok, that's fine, but some foods you shouldnt introduce until later.

my son is 8 months and eats the teething biter biscuits, crackers etc. He likes the step 2 foods. Girls won't pack on the pounds like boys. PLUS she may be teething and that may be why she is refusing to feed. Try Orajel or tylenol a bit before feeding her and be sure she hasn't had a feeding within the last few hours. I like to put my son right in the high chair after his nap, if he is demanding I give him a little suckel of his bottle then start shoveling it in!!

Babies never starve if they're offered food, so don't stress when she refuses something. She will eat enough to satisfy her needs. Let her try a little corner of whatever you're eating and make a bit of a game out of it. If you act like it's no big deal she'll come around to eating regular food at her own pace.

at eight months old she should be sat in a highchair feeding herself finger foods!!!!.........why do you want to give her tastless mush again?, she will not be developing her speech muscles, and she may develop chrones disease in later life because her bowels arent processing proper food!. sit her in a highchair, put finger food on the tray and leave her to it....stay nearby obviously, but DONT sit staring at her, nobody likes to be stared at inc kids, while eating.i have three kids that have all done really well eating because they have eaten what we have, more or less from a young age..jars are full of water and sugar.home cooked is best and try and eat as a family.....trust me it will work!!

stop pressuring her to eat. she will eat when she is hungry.
making mealtimes a fight helps no one in the long run.
just offer the food and don't be concerned if she eats it.
don't worry about her weight. don't try to make her eat if
she doesnt' want to. she will eat when she is hungry.
i promise.
