The best thing to do is set your mind to stop and then reward yourself every time you keep from doing your habit. If you catch yourself doing it, reward yourself also so that you can end up breaking the habit.

Hope that helps!

The usual, and best thing to do would be to undergo hypnotherapy. You would take several sessions with a hypnotherapist to put you into a state of deep relaxation, and implant the behavioral changes while you are in that state. Another possibility is NLP, or Neuro-Linguistic Programming. With that, you do this yourself, by anchoring. But it also needs guidance of a specialist.
Can all be done though, no big deal. Search for a holistic health practitioner or alternative medicine practitioner or alternative therapist in the yellowpages, they are everywhere.

I find that the most effective way to change a bad habit is to prevent it cold-turkey rather than easing off the habit gradually.
