Red-Flare's answer is related to the end of WWI.

The Treaty of Paris of 1763 ended what is called in he United States the "French & Indian War". In Europe this same conflict is called the "Seven Years' War".

The TP1763 ended the French empire in North America. The English colonies had been confined to the eastern seaboard because the French controled what is now Canada and the whole interior of North America from the Appalachian Mountains westward to at least the Colorado Rockies. In an earlier treaty of the same year the French surrendered control of New Orleans and the land west of the Mississippi River to Spain. What was left, was ceeded to Britain. There were other provisions rrelated to fishing rights and other minor things but as far as some of the American Colonies were concerned this gave them the right to extend their claims into the trans-Appalachian west based on their original sea-to-sea charters.

Many Treaties of Paris have been issued throughout the course of history...it would be helpful if you specified what year this "Treaty of Paris" was written.
