I think it's ridiculous. They wouldn't give Johnny Damon $13 million a year, but you give J.D. Drew $14 million a year? Plus, they're trying to get rid of ManRam!!!

I think Boston is sending a message to Manny that he is expendable and not above the team by signing Drew, although Beantown spend a lot of dough for a guy that only hit 20 HR in 2006 and falter during the playoffs. Drew has a reputation of being soft and abandoning teams when they need him the most; by going to a baseball town like Boston, Drew has to step up or he's going to be the new joke in a town that's unforgiving to bad Boston players. Remember, Scott Boras (or I like to call the prince of darkness) convince Drew to opt out of his current 5 year deal and I wouldn't be surprise if he did the same to Boston two years later if he had the chance (how ironic that Boston sign a 5 year deal also, but 15 million more than what the Dodgers paid him).

JD Drew is worth about 8 mill a year at best. Just because he gets on base doesn't make him a great hitter. He drov ein 100 runs for the first time in his career last year. What a joke. And he plays in only 100 games each year...and hes a malcontent. What a joke.

$14 million a year to JD Drew is $1million a year more than the Yankees are paying that other JD guy. This must be sticking in his craw. If Drew is healthy it's money well spent. If not, Wily Mo in right, Coco in center, Manny in left? Still not so bad.

When JD Drew came to the big leagues he had tremendous potential. Nine years later his career is still about what he might be able to do. Almost every scrutinization of this signing uses the word "if". $70 million is a lot of money to risk on "if". Thank God the Cardinals cut their ties (and losses) years ago!

My guess is Theo E. never watched the Cardinals when Drew played for them. He has had two almost full seasons, and he did very well in those two seasons out or 7. But his attitude, or at least the appearance of his attitude because he is so laid back is what always turned off the fans in St. Louis. He never played hurt, even minor injuries.

If, and I know this is a big if, Drew can stay healthy, than I think it was a good signing, though I still wouldn't give him $70 million.

wager what?? Boston needs to purchase a pennant and worldwide series!! i do no longer decide for to take heed to anymore junk related to the Yankees consistently prepared to purchase yet another worldwide series. all of us is SPENDING money!!! yet JD (i will in no way play in Philadelphia) Drew is puffed up!! in basic terms yet another journeyman substantial leaguer getting paid way extra effective than he's well worth, (approximately sixty 9.5 million extra effective than he's well worth)!!! as quickly as back Boston in straightforward terms proves to the final public that first and superior they hate the Yankees with a keenness and on the comparable time they're nevertheless "YANKEE WANNABES"!! with the help of how, Drew is poison interior the locker room. He and Boston deserve one yet another.

Real stupid. He has never been happy...he's had different problems in St. Louis, Atlanta and Los Angeles. It's not like Boston is a friendly town, so he'll be traded within two years...maybe to the Yanks.

I truly feel sorry for Boston, they are a team without direction. Give up Manny for Drew? (at least that is the way it appears) It completely defies common sense. I'm not Epstein, but what is that man thinking?
