If you have dark skin, then in a lot of people's eyes, you are a black person no matter what you're mixed with. I has a lot to with internal racism that's been passed on to us.
Having a lighter skin tone and being mixed with caucasin races has been seen as better to some.
If you do talk about it a lot then she might think you're rubbing it in. There's nothing wrong with being proud of where you come from. But no one wants to hear about it all the time. Saying it more than a couple of times is a bit much, unless it's a topic in your class. Other than that, why talk about it?
I have friends in my life for years who had no idea that I'm part Irish and Native American. I've never been in touch with my culture either. But I don't metion it all that much.
The way I see it...we're all going to end up one weird looking race anyway.

Is she black? or just one heritage?
Sometimes mixed people over do it with the talking. Especially when you appear to be more than the other it sort of seems like your not proud of being who you are. Me I'm black and Puerto Rican and I look black but its funny how spanish people treat me different when they discover I know spanish and I let them know I'm also spanish. I do embrace both but I don't make it a big issue because it really isn't.
On the other hand, when I asked you if she was black, or inbred lol. It's usually jealously because mixed people are better than everyone. lol jk Like growing up, the black people I know knew I was half spanish and I would get racist feedback. I mean that offends me. There was a moment in time where I would only say I'm Puerto Rican not black and I didn't get much racism from spanish people tho, only through jokes. I don't think that it would offend me if a white or asian person were racist towards me because it hurts more when your own race treats you like an outcast.

Generally when someone critizes you for talking about yourself it could be looked at in a couple of ways. 1) You are constantly dominating the conversation talking about you and not having a conversation, or 2) They are jealous. Not knowing which is the actual case I can't truely answer if you are in the wrong. Talking about your heritage is great, you are a strong confident person, but dominating conversations to talk about yourself is considered rude.

That's the kind of thing that gets on my nerves. I'm proud of who I am too, but I don't go around forcing people to listen to me tell them how great I am. And if I said dude I don't want to hear it, would people think I'm racist? I see people as people, not "just a black person" but just a person.

No it is not wrong. We need to learn of the trials our ancestors went through to make a better life for us. I'm proud of my heritage. My Granny always told me I was Heinz 57 variety. I'm a mix of many different nationalities. Learn all you can of your ancestors and be all that you can be.

No it's not wrong at all. My girl is mixed, too, and she is proud of both sides of her family's heritages. Just tell this person to mind their own business. More power to you!

This world is full of haters. No matter what it is that you are talking about she'll find something negative to say about you or what you are doing. She is just jealous. I love the fact that my father is half black. It makes it more interesting when you hear about your ancestors. Keep it real, love who you are, and you'll go further in life.

No it is not wrong to talk about it, and it is not wrong to be very proud of who you are. It sounds as though she is just a very jealous and ignorant individual. I would really try very hard not to pay her any attention. And suggest to her if she does not like your conversation, don't listen. Very simple remedy to her problem. Good luck and God bless****
