Hi to You!
Last night, I just saw on Amazon.com that they had an offer for free shipping on "Diatomaceous earth", that is used for a natural killer/prevent-er for slug control for people who enjoy growing "hostas", and other plants that slugs can destroy.
It's put out by "Green Sense".
It was offered in 20 lbs. bags, With FREE shipping.
You can sprinkle this all around your plants and it is not harmful or poisonous to any warm-blooded animal.
It's 100% natural.
It's fossilized sea animal creatures.
This works by being like broken glass "sharps", that cut up, and/or irritate the slugs that come in contact with it.
When the slugs get cut up, they succumb to infections and die, or dehydrate and die.
This material is also used in pool filters, but don't get the pool filter grade, it is polished, and won't be as effective as the garden grade sold for slug control.
Check out amazon, in the garden, "pest control" sections or just garden products.
I'm getting some to use next spring on my hosta and hydrangeas.
Hope this helps,
Dave

Beer... half bury a small mineral water bottle in the garden, having cut some holes in the side. Bury it up to the level of the holes.

Put an inch of beer in the bottom and leave it for a few days. Then empty it and repeat. You need to do it a few times, but I find you can erradicate the local slug population fairly quickly.

It's organic too, so you don't have to worry about eating those nasty chemicals in slug pellets (if it's veggies your growing).

If you use Slug Pellets you then run the risk of killing Hedgehogs as they eat slugs. The better way is to use a beer trap.Take a look at www.cleanairgardening.com if you are in the States of if in UK try www.greengardener.co.uk Good Luck

Spread some oats and/or rice round the garden. alternatively you can get a plastic bottle and cut half off the top, then you cut some square notches out of the rim. dig a hole and put the bottle in it with the notches sticking out of the ground. fill with ale or lager and place an old saucer upside down on top of the bottle. the slugs are drawn to the smell of lager and ale so they will drink through the notches. they then die. seems like a waste of alcohol, but trust me, it works.

Do the beer one, have oyu ever seen a slug thats had salt poured on it? They sort of fizz up and leave a pile of goo, ew!

Slug pellets aren't safe for other animals, do the beer, at least they'll die happy :)

Slugs will feed mostly at night. They hide under leaves and mulch during daytime. They are attracted to baits or pellets containing metaldehyde (fine print on the label). This works pretty good in flower or landscape beds but it is deactivated if it rains on it so you will have to replace it if you have rainfall.
Good luck.

prevent slugs from eating plants by getting rolls of copper tape,(available from ebay)&making copper rings.Place these rings around the base of the plant &they will be slug free.Killing slugs makes little difference as there are thousands of them in an average garden. You can stick the tape around the tops of containers too.

why would you want to kill a slug???
SLUGS RULE!!!!
but if your a hater and don't race your slugs on Saturdays after bingo (and you think I'm kidding) then try putting beer on paper plates around your yard since then they won't get their nasty guts all over your yard by squishing (believe me, I've seen many racing accidents) so then they just shrivel up.

My mum uses beer cans with a little beer left in side, the slugs get attracted to it and it will crawl in drown and die.

This is what you do. Put potato peelings in a pile where you see the slugs, they will gather at night. Collect them and destroy. Good luck! :) Arum
