You could try a bronzer, and maybe shoulder length hair. don't wear heavy makeup, but wear some, like a light eye shadow and lipgloss. wear regular tshirts, buy one or two from American eagle or hollister. if you don't want your skin to look too pale, try dying your hair a warm brown instead of harsh black.
Remember, don't act gothic!

keep make up natural but bright. Use light makeup, beige, soft lavender. Try a hint a colour on your cheeks, also, Bare Essentials makes a great mineral make-up and their "Warmth" is great for pale people, it adds a healthy, glow, not the orange bronzed look. Trust me I know, I'm as pale as they come. Just avoid heavy make-up, keep your face natural, including eyebrows. I agree with not tanning though...it's not worth the damage it does to your skin.

I say embrace your pale skin. I have pale skin also and now embrace it. If you want you could try adding a little bronzer to your face or some red, auburn or brownish highlights to your hair. Also wear colors and go light on the make-up.

i am also pale but with light blonde hair, i wear really bright colors and also add my little touch by dressing it down with my black and white vans. i would wear super colorful shirts w/e jeans and add cool shoes (vans, chucks, etnies, ect;). i also only wear mascara and some eyeliner (dark brown) for a natural look. if you wear alot of black eyeliner and dress in black alot people are gonna think ur gothic (which is fine in my opinion). but please do not dye your hair! you are lucky to have naturally black hair, show it off instead of dying it. if you want to be preppy slowly ease into ur new style by adding new accessories everyday. good luck!

my aunt is that way and i dont think that she looks gothic. just make sure that you remember that less is more when it comes to make up. im saying light shadow and mascara-thats it
and try to keep your hair out of your face.
the other thing that has nothing to do with the hand that was dealt to you is your clothing. try to keep the colors light and believe it or not white shirts will really compliment your skin and hair and is the farthest from goth.

Curly hair, pastels, browns, reds, just don't where a lot of solid black, but you don't have look like the bubble gum Barbie, try mixing up soil id colors. Jewelry and other accessories help to set you part as well.

Catherine Zeta-Jones is an excellent example of a dark haired woman who always looks classy. Try using her as your roll model

get low-lights in your hair. and wear colors and then maybe people wont think of you as gothic...dont completely die your hair or it will look bad with black roots, but definately low-lights.
