60 Seconds X 60 Minutes = 3600 seconds per minute
3600 seconds per day X 24 hours a day = 86400 sec. per day
86400 sec. per day X 365 Days a yr. = 31536000 sec. per yr.
1000000000 sec./ 31536000sec. per yr. = 31.70979198 yrs. in 1 billion seconds
round to 32 yrs. or 31.7 yrs.

lol ok whoa whoa chillax there =P. Okay well find out how many second are in a year, then take one billion and divide by the number of second in 1 year, to get your number of year. So let's see...

1min = 60sec
1h = 3600 sec
24h[1day] = 86400 sec
1 year[ 365 days] = 31536000 sec

Okay..Now take 1 billion which is 1 x 10 ^ 9 sec / 31536000 sec [ year]

= about 31.7 years.

There! lol =P

Hope that helps.

Good luck on the rest!

Okay, as a homeschooling mom I will not give you the answer but let's figure out how to work the problem. start with 60 seconds = 1 minute work your way up to how many seconds are in a year. Go up or down from there. Remember, do your homework yourself. Sooner or later you will have to work for youself to get anywhere in this world. Better start now. You are smart and you can do this. If you are still stuck there are math homework helps on the web.

1,000,000,000 seconds
60 seconds in a minute
1,000,000,000 / 60 = 16666666.6666666666667 minutes
60 minutes in an hour
16666666.6666666666667 / 60 = 277777.7777778 hours
24 hours in a day
277777.7777778 / 24 = 11574.074074074 days
365 days in a year
11574.074074074 / 365 = 31.7 years
This is all depending on how many decimals you carry through the entire calculation

First we need to detrmine what a billion is, there are actually 2 definitions of a billion, a thousand million 10^9 & a million million 10^12.

I'm going to assume its 10^9 as this is commonly used in US and modern countries to refer to a billion.

Dividing seconds by 60 gets # minutes
Dividing by 60 again gets # hours
dividing answer by 24 gets #days
dividing by 365.25 gets # years (leap year every 4th yr)

60s*60m*24h*365.25d = 31557600 seconds per year

divide 10^9 by 31557600 = 31.69 yrs

/ means divided by since I can't make a divided by sign on the computer. =-)

You take 1,000,000,000 seconds / 60 (there are 60 seconds in a minute) =16,666,666.666 minutes.

16,666,666.666 minutes / 60 (there are 60 minutes in an hour) = 277,777.777 hours.

277,777.777 hours / 24 (there are 24 hours in a day) = 11,574.074 days.

11,574.074 days / 365 (there are 365 days in a year) = 31.71 years.

There's your answer! =-)

The way i did it was find out the number of seconds in a week, than multiply that number times 52 (weeks in one year) to find the number of seconds in one year and than divide 1 billion into the number of seconds in one year....

i got 31.79 yrs which rounds to 31 yrs 288 days 8 hrs and 24 minutes...

1 billion seconds

x 1 minute / 60 seconds = 16,666,666.67 minutes

x 1 hour / 60 minutes = 277,777.78 hours

x 1 day / 24 hours = 11574.07 days

x 1 year / 365.25 days* = 31.69 years

-------------------
(* 365.25 days per year takes into consideration a leap year every 4 years.)

60 seconds in a minute, 60 minutes in an hour = 3,600 seconds
24 hours in a day X 3,600 = 86,400 seconds in a day
86,400 seconds in a day X 365 days a year = 31,536,000 seconds a year
1,000,000,000 / 31,536,000 = 31.71

So your answer is 31.71 years

1 billion seconds / 60 = 16,666,666.67 minutes.

Divide that by 60 and you get 277,777.78 hours.

Divide that by 24 and you get 11,574.07 days.

Divide that by 365.25 and you get 31.69 years.

BTW: one year = 365.25 days. That's why there's an extra day every four years (leap year).

I hope that helps.

BTW: if you're really ambitious, it's 31.6880878140289 years.
