It's true. Also, the comment about hormones affecting the color is true too, it just may not come out how you expect.

Best to wait until after you have the baby.

I am the mother of 6, and have had my beautician license for 18 yrs....It is not harmful to the baby if you are in a WELL ventilated area. BUT...your body goes through so much while you are rpegnant, and you may not be satisfied with the results. On SOME people, it can cause hair loss, discoloring, or dry your folicles out severely, causeing split ends, which will force you to cut off more than you would like. My advice is this....try a new hair style....or if you are dead set on color change, try a rinse (semi permanant) coloring. Or ...... if you want to frost it, do not use over the counter brand. Go to a Sally's Beauty supply, they have a bucket of powder there called BLUE MAGIC, it is a peroxide based product that is easier on the hair. I used it on my girls when they were little, because childrens hair is so sensitive. It will not dry out or burn your hair, and really simpe to use, my daughters do each others all of the time. It really is not all that expensive either. You can use a cap or foil to apply it where you want it. It will give you the highlights or streaks, and you can be as subtle or bold as you want.

I have been a stylist for 10 years, so you can imagine how many times I am asked this question. So when I bacame pregnant with my first, I asked my doctor what exactly were the effects on a fetus from hair color and bleach. He said there has been many studies done and it is safe to color, bleach, and perm your hair while pregnant! No studies have suggested otherwise! I have seen some unpredictable results in the haircolor and bleach. Sometimes it doesn't turn out quite even. The hair that has been exposed to new hormone changes(regrowth) sometimes does take color slightly different! But this is quite rare. So I would say go for it, it will boost your self esteem during a long pregnancy! I would suggest going to a professional though. That way you are sure that it is the right shade for your skin tone, especialy if you are going dark! Good luck to you.

let me start out by saying i am a cosmetologist and have researched a lot on this subject. my teachers / doctor / people i have asked from experience say there's no harm in coloring your hair while pregnant.
i haven't tried bleaching, but i colored my hair this past weekend. i am 7 weeks along. it came out the exact color it was supposed to. honestly, i think a lot of people who say that it will come out the completely wrong color either a) have heard that rumor and passing it along, or b) have had their hair not turn out exactly how they wanted it to and blame it on the pregnancy. (read on before getting offended)
I am NOT saying that hormones in pregnant women NEVER alter the dye and outcome, but i think it happens a lot less frequently than people make it sound like on here.

so don't worry about harming the baby. keep the room ventilated when you've got chemicals out. more than anything, changing you hair will give you a boost on your image as a mommy-to-be!

Go for it! The only thing thats gonna happen to you is you will feel better about your hair. I am pregnant and my best friend is a hair dresser, she's done lots of read up on the subject and she dyed my hair. I felt a lot better afterwords, my light hair in the winter made my face look paler than pale darkening it made me look and feel a lot better. Just don't overdo it.

I'm a hair dresser! you can dye your hair just don't bleach it until you have your baby because your hair is different right now and you don't want to chance it and also after you have the baby you will want to have a nice change so leave the bleaching for later and you will enjoy the change too after the baby

I got mine bleached and dyed at 23 weeks and baby is perfectly fine. It's something I'd much rather a professional do though that myself at this time. But you can do it. In a very well ventilated area.

not as long as you are in a well ventilated area. and as long as you don't eat it.

i heard that if you dye your hair when pregnant the color won't take. i did it anyway, last time i dyed it black, before i got pregnant, and it was growing out so i dyed it red. the roots turned red but i just got a reddish hue in the black. i've done it before and that never happened, maybe it was a pregnancy thing, i don't know.

with my first pregnancy i didnt dare everyone told me not to i started with blonde hair and by the time i had him my hair was half blonde half dark brown it was terrible i have no pics of me at that time cause of it

with my second i dyed my hair when needed and she was absolutly fine but i would go sit outside so it was ventilated and i didnt have to smell all the nasty smells

with my pregnancy now my hair was black so i let my dark brown grow in only cause it dont look to bad lol

so i would say it is ok i know lots of people that do it while pregnaunt i did and would now if i felt up to it lol

just make sure you dont have to sit in a room and smell the stink of the dye lol

good luck and congrates

it is true the ammonia and other chemicals in the dye/bleach that you can smell goes into your body and as I'm sure you know everything that goes in your body ends up in the babies. the ammonia is what is worse just like the ammonia in a cat box they say don't change kitty liter because of this

bleach is a no no...but a non permanate hair dye is ok...this is what my doc told me...as long as you use it in a VERY well ventilated area it doesnt harm your baby. But it is best to wait until 2nd trimester they say. i did mine in the first but was very carefull.
GOOD LUCK
