I think that it's important to go to mars or moon. We have to colonize them get new resources and build new bases, in order to make space travel possible.

I agree with you 100 percent. My optimism is waning, however.

The biggest threat to the Moon and Mars missions is the USA Congress. The 535 members of Congress don't care if America achieves anything at all as long as they can have piece of NASA's budget for their district or state. They have micromanaged the most successful American institution into mediocrity.

Why Mars? Mars is a pretty weird place to create a colony. It has such low gravity it can barely hold the kind of air pressure we would need, etc. I just think there are better planets out there to colonize.

France has stepped forward and created a telescope specifically designed to find planets in other star systems, I believe. I really have to give them kudos for that. I agree we are going to eventually need to colonize other worlds, but I don't see how Mars would help us, other than installing solar cells there to collect energy or something. But even that is silly because of all the dust.

I'm betting what we really need for the next step in space travel is antimatter. And we can produce that right here on Earth (Mars wouldn't help), although very slowly.

We should be reading about a Mars mission in history books.

The problem is NASA is the biggest game in town, and they've wasted decades of money on the Shuttle and ISS
