seems that perhaps you already have some good answers. you should start by running an anti virus program, clear all cookies and delete al downloaded content. you can do these from the tools, internet options menu in internet explorer. That will remove any tracking cookies. and adware which has been loaded into explorer. Along with antivirus you need a firewall. Antivirus doesnt protect your computer from being attacked just removes the virus once its on your machine, a good firewall will block attacks. Windows has its own built in firewall, but that is prone attack so best to use a dedicated brand. the best software i've found, is to purchase a well reknowned brand that provides regular updates. I use Norton, there are others. Its available for download as well as on a packaged cd rom. Obviously its costs but you known you got the best protection there is. Skybot, etc cause their own problems but can be good short term solution, although they dont pickup everything. Lastly if you use windows be sure to download the security updates at the very least, its annoying downloading all the stuff they offer but security updates fix glitches in their programming found by hackers.

I f you think you have a virus download AVG Anti-Virus System Free Edition v7.30, its very good, you will find it at www.pcadvisor.co.uk/downloads or www.grisoft.com Make sure to use FREE edition. However try cleaning up your PC take out all backgrounds/screen savers and the like, also remove all programmes you dont use, as well as photos if stored on PC(down load to disc) all of these will soak up memory. I'm sorry if you already done all this, another thing to check is the removal of temporary files and give the machine a defrag

Well, start with an antivirus program. I recommed avg free. Get a free copy at free.grisoft.com
Next, you should get an antiadware progam, such as ad aware, from lavasoft.com, or avg antispyware, from free.grisoft.com.
Also, check out an anti-spyware program, such as spybot search and destroy.
Under no circumstances, should you use system restore. This will restore the computer, but the virus will be backed up and reverted back to the restoration point. Hopefully, those free programs will take care of it. Hope this helps!

Working with a slow computer can be time consuming as programs/ applications take a long time to start. This problem is more pronounced in computers which have been used for 6 or more months. More information at http://fixit.in/slowcomputer.html

try to remove the backgrounds and programs u don't need and that are waste of space. Then restart your computer, increase security of pop up blocker, run anti virus progs like:
ccleaner
dustbuster
ad aware se personal
norton (least helpful, still ok though)

Although adding background generally will slow down your computer, I feel you are infected. Try the links below to clean your system.

Download, update and run Spybot---http://www.safer-networking.org/ . Don't forget to use the Immunize feature.

Download, update and run Adaware---http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/products/select_your_product.php

Run a free online scan at http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Download SpywareBlaster---http://majorgeeks.com/download2859.html

SpywareBlaster doesn't scan and clean for spyware - it prevents it from ever being installed.

It's main features include:
- Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
- Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
- Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
