Well I have always heard about American Idle but I have never actually watched it. So I was wondering what exactly is it and what is it about, and what do they do on the show?

It is called American Idol.
It is a show with amateur singers. They are trying to find the best undiscovered talent in this country. Some have been very successful. Kelly Clarkson, Carie Underwood, Reuben Studdard, Fantasia Barino,Clay Aiken. There is one ex-contestant named Jennifer Hudson who is getting Oscar buzz for her role in the movie "Dreamgirls".

I assume that you mean "American Idol" because I have never heard of the idle one. It is a show where people from around the country audition to become America's next famous singer. Kelly Clarkson, Reuben Studdard, Fantasia Burrino, and Taylor Hicks are some of the former contestants who each won the contest at a different time. Simon Cowell is the head of the show.
There are other "idol" shows like it, such as "Australian Idol".

American Idol is about a bunch of people that like to sing and they all get 2gether and sing for Randy, Paula Abdul, and Simon Cowell (who is a bich). Then they choose some people to sing against each other. 2 people are eliminated every week. A man and a woman. then the winner gets to make a cd and become a famous singer.
