it is called a capo like you've been told.the type I think you should look into is a type that covers the strings and clamps to the back of your guitar neck.you will find some that have a elastic band that puts the tension on the strings,but as you might guess once the band stretches a bit ,it is no longer holding your strings down tightly at the fret and you will get the most lovely buzzing sound.You local guitar shop should have what you need in stock.Ask to try a couple different ones before you buy.They usually don't have a problem with that.
