Cannavaro is not the captain of Real Madrid. However, country wise, I think Cannavaro (Italy) is a better player, but Terry (England) is a better captain.
Cannavaro is a world class defender. He goes in hard for his tackles and wins them. he is an intimidating presence on the football field. But what makes him so spectacular and unique is that he reads the game perfectly and anticipates what the opponent is going to do. He is one of the reasons that Italy won the World Cup. Did you know that he did not receive any cards during the tournament. That is pretty impressive for a defender and captain.
Terry is also a fantastic player. he commands form the back and motivates his players. I think that is what gives him the edge over Cannavaro. He is very vocal so he earns his respect. However, sometimes I think he is a bit reckless as a defender, usually throwing himself at strikers to block shots. It can seem a little wild, especially when he misses. But still Terry is a great defender.
But if I had to choose best captain defender, I would choose Cannavaro!

Cannavaro is the best defender in the world..
winning 2 serie A titles back to back (although juve was stripped off both of them)..plus winning WC this year...its awesome...
Terry played with fredinand(most valuable defender of EPL) on his side in WC..but still they conceded goals
while Nesta(most valuable in serie A) was injured in all the matches after group matches...but still italy coneded only 2 goals ( an OG and a Penalty kick)
No No No...dont tell me it is all because of Buffon...he surely is the best goal keeper but..u have to past Centrl defenders (like terry or cannavaro) to test a goal keeper..most fo the time...
just watch the end of the Italy-Germany semifinal. After running his butt off for 118 minutes, Cannavaro puts everything into winning one last ball, and sending Italy on the counterattack which ended the game.

Then how he cud b the captain
For now RAUL is the captain of Real and if he is not there then it cud b Roberto Carlos or Ronaldo
