I think it's wonderful to find someone of your age that is so insightful. Of course, in all fairness, had I had 300 television channels, $600 video game systems bought for me, a cell phone (or even a phone in my room), and all of the other items your generation has been burdened with when I was 19, I would have probably lacked motivation as well. I guess that since I was working 18 hours a day, living in a house I was renting, supporting myself and my wife, starting a family, and helping support my widowed mother at age 19, I just can't relate to your situation, nor sympathize with you in any way. I would suggest taking on some responsibilities to help get you motivated, but if your parents are still taking care of you and letting you live at home for free, then I guess you have no reason to be motivated.

You're probably right. I'd say they do think your generation is lazy...even I think that (and I'm not THAT old). When you think about all the things that "old" people had to do everyday compared to what young people today have to do....I'm sure today's kids do appear lazy to them. They had to work alot harder and they watched their parents work alot harder than most of us do today. And with all the video game playing and TV watching and ipod using and cell phone chats there doesn't seem to be much productive activity going on in "your generation". I said there doesn't SEEM to be....I didn't mean to imply that it's true. And, maybe at 19 it's time you get motivated or admit that you are lazy.

I'm not sure why you're taking your lack of motivation out on the elderly. You too will be old one day and lament at how misguided you once were.

I hate old people too. I don't feel any hostility towards them but I'm always scared a strange old person is going to die suddenly in a public place and I'll be near them and unable to help them because they freak me out too much.

maybe the fact that they think you're lazy could be your motivation to get up and do something.
