This grass is planted over my sand mound drainfield and I have been having problems with it lately.

Depends on what kind of grass it is. Some grass turns brown or whitish during the cold months. Some stays green year round.

Yes, especially bermuda grasses and St. Augestine varieties. It's not technically dead, but it is dormant and won't green up until after winter rains and the heat returns.

Nothing you can do about it. Ugly, ain't it?

it's probably crabgrass and yes they do turn white.
