I opt for glass icicles on the very ends of many select branches to give the tree a nice look, up and down. But that's me! How about you?

I love the diversified answers I am getting for this one! Tinsel is a nice touch if used carefully but there are many alternatives. And I totally agree that it's not not for small children or animals, especially curious kitties. Remember the old lead tinsel? I loved that as a kid because after you take it off the tree you can squeeze into a ball and toss it around! It was actually made with lead! circa 1950's .....yikes!

I like tinsel, but my cats just pull it off and my little kids try to play princess with it.

We have plastic balls, not glass because our 5 kids throw them and break them.

the icicles go great, we told the kids that if they touch them, Santa will not come because those are special to him and he does not want them broken!

Beads work well, we have green, blue, and purple.
Good luck, no tinsel for us though! It just doesn't work when you have five kids ages 6-2!

With 3 cats, no tinsel or garland. They'll eat it. I loved tinsel as a kid. Glass icicles are pretty, tho'. I keep mine set up with safe ornaments at the bottom so if we knock into it (small room) nothing gets broken.

well, tinsel is good, aside from the cleaning it up if it gets on the floor. if however you have pets, especially cats, do not use tinsel, but icicles add a nice touch to.

I hate tinsel. It looks pretty if done right and not in clumps, but to do it right is soooooo time consuming. Like you, I have glass icicles. They look amazing with the lights and are sooo much easier to clean up.

Tinsel is passe. There are many better ways to be creative with the tree.

Sounds Beautiful. If you have small children, tinsel should be used with care.

Tinsel is very messy, so we don't use it. I don't even like the way it looks on a tree.

I used to put tinsel but it is messy and dangerous and bad for the environment. I like to keep it simple or themed or Victorian.

I love the tinsel look but had to go with garland because I've got two kitties. ;)
