A Poem for America

America the Beautiful
America the great
If this is true
Why was this our fate?
Was it something we did?
Was it something we said?
Even if so
Do all those people deserve to be dead?
We are going through horror
We are going through pain
Yet we are not to worry
For justice we shall gain
We must pray and stick together
Pray and be strong
Finding the one responsible will not take too long
And when we do find them
We will make them pay
And that my brothers and sisters
Will be the most glorious day!
Jennifer Alina Ruigrok .
Children...Mere babies died on that horrible day Only months after people started to forget and now look at most people waving there peace signs saying we should have never started this war. Well guess what... we didn't, we retaliated with good reason and justification. I wish we could all be at peace but with people flying planes into buildings with thousands of people in them I'd say thats a little hard. http://www.9-11heroes.us/v/Asia_Cottom.php

I agree who knows if iraq had anything to do with the war... Bush and party claim its against all nations who harbor terrorists and their mentality. Thats enough for me to support it, for it directly relates to 9/11 and the many not only americans but humans we lost.

"Iraq was bad and Saddam was bad when he tortured, but it is okay when we torture because we are protecting ourselves. Well guess what, so was he. "
What the hell are you talking about?
So your saying that saddam raped and murdered thousands of people for his own protection? Hmmmmm....

That's deep. It makes you realize just how trajic 9-11 really was. It makes you want to go back to that day, and see if you can change the course of events to make the world a better place, doesn't it?

Beautiful poem but it is somewhat misguided. Everyone argues that America is great, it isn't. I'm not saying it is a bad country, it isn't. But there is no single greatest country on earth. In the end none of them can live up to the promise of making our lives better.

We say Saddam and Osama are evil, guess who put them in power. America did, because they wanted to fight off the Communists of Russia. Then we let them stay in power even though we knew they were terrorizing their people. We also supported Chile's dictator Pinochet when we knew the same thing about him because of fighting Communism again. We as a country have shown only that we will "help" when it suits our purposes. Then we will leave people to suffer and die if it no longer helps us to prevent that suffering.

We attack the Muslim terrorists for hating us and killing us, when we were the ones who set up our bases on their holy lands. We attack Mexicans for coming over when we took the land from them, then destroyed their economy. Now they try to help themselves by sharing with us and we will have none of it. Even our own we are unwilling to help, just ask the Katrina victims, or the Vietnam vets who can get no help for their various diseases caused by the chemicals we used against the Vietnamese.

I'm not pointing out America's faults because I think America is a bad country. But Americans see only the good and none of the bad, like we are incredibly awesome and no one is as good as us. We are the same as all other peoples on Earth, we have our good and our bad. We must quit seeing everyone as evil, but as humans, they must do the same. We must quit lumping everyone together as all bad or all good.

Iraq was bad and Saddam was bad when he tortured, but it is okay when we torture because we are protecting ourselves. Well guess what, so was he. I agree it was wrong for him to do it, but why in the world would the ones who say it is wrong for him to do it then say it is okay for us to do it (and for no other reason than that we are Americans and therefore everything we do is right and good). He was wrong for invading Kuwait and yet we are right for invading Iraq, why? We must see our wrongs so we can correct them. We must see the rights in others so we can see they aren't so different from us. We must be objective to everyone (them and us) if any progress is to be made.
