Why have so many people been labeling all these new bands as punk?

Or even worse, why are they puting punk in the same category as emo (gag)? I'm a HUGE fan of real punk...true punk, and I'm also a fan of some new punk that holds true to it's roots, but everyone is going emo...agh! What's going on?

Because alot of people are musically illitereate. I'm a metalhead, and alot of people want to categorize alot of bands that are far from being real metal bands. I also think promoters and radio stations have alot to do with it. Just because they have tattoos and spiked hair doesn't mean they are punk. It's all about attitude. Just like us metalheads. It's a way of life. All these pre-fabricated, cookie-cutter, synthetic bands out there is what's killing todays music.

It really depends on what your definition of punk is. My definition is stuff like Antischism, Aus-Rotten, Brother Inferior, etc. It's disheartening to see these bands pretty much create their own genre of music, only to have it taken away and manipulated by pop-culture.

People are labeling them punk because they don't know where to put all these crappy bands that are coming out right now. My suggestion in in the toliet where all crap belongs.

Because "punk" sells. "Punk" is the new "grunge", which was the new "alternative". And as sure as shyte, "punk" will be replaced by a new "genre" that will pop up somewhere.
