I'm 12 weeks and i had my appointment with my OB this morning. He had to rush away because a lady in the lobby went into labor so i have a few questions I didnt get to ask. I was just wondering why he said not to have sex for 2-3 days. I had a biopsy today because my pap was positive for HPV (no big deal....yet....) and the biopsy has caused me to spot some. He said something about if I had sex it could cause full blown bleeding which could result in miscarriage. Just wondering why a biopsy would be done during pregnancy if it has such a risk? Also, if you remember my post about me being sexually frustrated cuz hubby is scared he will hurt the baby...isnt it ironic that he promised to satisfy me today after the DR appt and the dr. said no sex???LOL how funny is that :( Thanks for your answers.

Your cervix needs to heal after the biopsy. It will be 'weak' for a little while. I would take your doc's recommendations to let it rest and heal. He doesn't want you to introduce any 'outside' bacteria into your vaginal tract that might cause an infection since you have, basically, an open wound. This means no penises, tampons..etc. You're probably okay for 'other' means of stimulation (wink.wink).

well if the dr told you not to have sex because it could cause full blown bleeding and cause a miscarriage then wouldnt that answer your question. when the dr did the biopsy he actually cut out a piece of your cervix which would be uncomfortable during sex anyway. it sounds like youre really anxious to be satisfied, but for your baby's sake i would put it off until you are cleared by your doctor to have sex. as for being positive for hbv, i heard that sometimes during pregnancy you can get false positives, but in case you dont know hbv can cause cancer as many other problems and if you had a biopsy there should be a little worry until those test results come back. its something that could be passed onto the baby. good luck

It's just until the biopsy location is healed up. YOu don't want to make an irritated place worse by having intercourse. It doesn't mean NEVER have sex, just take it easy for a few days.

And tell your husband that he can't hurt the baby with his penis. The baby is so far up there and so well protected that to the baby, all it feels is a rocking sensation - like being on a boat - and it can even fall asleep during that time! The baby will also like all the hormones that your body releases during sex. it's a GOOD thing! LOL!!

Sounds like my life. They did the biopsy to see what they needed to do during or after pregnancy. The reason for no sex? Your cervix has just been through a lot. Sex can make push it over the edge to say "the straw that broke the camels back". Just give it a few days and call the doc and get the ok. Then jump all over that man of yours and don't stop til he is screaming!!!!!! If you have any questions that you didn't get to ask just call the doctors office. They will answer all of them for you gladly. Good luck

The reason you were probably told not to have sex is because your cervix is already irritated from the biopsy. So it's probably a better safe then sorry answer.

I had a biopsy when I wasn't pregnant and told no sex for 3 or 4 days afterward too, so I think it's just so you can heal.
