Somewhere around the door hinges is a cam-and-spring deal. Its job is to make the door "stay" in the half-open or full-open position so it doesn't drift shut on you.
Either it needs some grease, or it is worn out. Use a foamy white silicone grease, I get it in a spray can for about $3 at an auto parts shop. Use the little straw on the can to help aim it, and watch your clothing. Might take several applications, hit it once every few days.
Thinner grease, like WD-40, will just dilute and wash away what grease is still there. Would work for a short time though.
That said, it's also possible that the fender is rubbing against the car door. Watch the door when it opens. Get that fixed FAST! I've seen where opening the door caved in the whole fender and that's an expensive trip to the body shop.

Something is binding somewhere. If the door has not been hit or buckled then the hinges may need replacing or adjustment.
move the door open and closed slowly to try to find out what is catching... then you will have an idea of what you have to fix.
