In the UK you get a standard amount which is about 57 quid a week..less if you are under 25.

That depends on what your salary before you were let go was, and how the benefits are calculated may vary from state to state. For example, in NY state, your weekly benefit is calculated by taking the highest quarter's salary you received (3 months) and then dividing it by 26. That is your weekly unemployment benefit. Also, unemployment benefits are capped to a maximum amount per week.
