His Lyrics are excellent, read them sometime without the music. The beat for his music is also usually good ( I think his best work was back in the late 90's) when he was more in line with the Trent Reznor sound
However I have been less than impressed with his live performances, and I think he could end the "gimmick" and stand on his musical ability alone.....

I can't say I am a fan but I can tell you I like the fact that he really doesn't give a hoot. A little over a decade ago, before South Beach became disneyland with bikini's - it used to be a great fun place. One of the scenes was a place called Washington Square on Wash. Ave. It was a pit of a club - dark and dirty but it used to get all the great punk bands in. Amongst the acts that would come were Marylyn Manson and the Spooky Kids (way before his first album) and he would come out all skinny and lanky in front of these slamdancing skinheads with his group of goths (which we all hated) and put on a show. People would throw beer bottles at them, try to mess up the show - but he would play through it - and sometimes - not always - but sometimes he would get some serious respect for it. I remember thinking - this guy doesn't care at all - I like that.

I'm not a fan of anything he's come out with for a long time. I think the only CD of his i liked was Portrait of an American family. I was introduced to it by some friends in the mid 90's. It was a new style of music i never heard before, it was a combination of industrial and heavy metal with dark themes that related to that f'd up part of yourself you never talk about. Then in the late 90's they became trendy and people followed their image in a pathetic attempt to belong. It almost seemed like the only reason ppl listened or claimed to listen to his music was, it was the trendy thing to do. I think this directly lead to the Emo movement.

I have been a Manson fan since the beginning. My brother got me to listen to them. I even went to two concerts, which by the way he is a GREAT performer. I love the music. I can't put my finger on it. His image is scary at times, but its the music is good. There is a lot of bubble gum out there and Manson has stayed true to their music.

When he first came out I liked that he was kinda different during a time of music when everyone else was doing the same old thing. But after a while other people started doing simular stuff and in some cases even crazier things, so he was not so inovative, and I personally got bored with him. But I still can't hear "The Beautiful People" without thinking of how crazy I thought he was when it came out.

I enjoy some of his music, but his antics turn me off. I like the music (mainly Smells like People, Antichrist Superstar) because the music combined with the sound of Manson's voice has this edgy, raw aggression to it and it gets you going. I am a Christian and Manson's lyrics or opinions do not effect my lifestyle...it's purely fictional entertainment (no matter how he tries to play up to his songs).

I like his music! I also think that he cna sya some interesting htings- that he is prepared to 'think the unthinkable' as it were- a man with a particular capacity for making sense of a great deal of modern ideology, of the myths and illusions that perpetuate certain power systems.

But mostly his music!

What appeals most to me about Marilyn Manson isn't necessarily his looks or anything like that. It's that he encourages people to be themselves and not to believe something just because that's what they are told.

He is just plain amazing! I love the way he dresses, he is original, and he doesn't care what people think he just goes for it. I am a big fan of his music too, I think he has a great voice.
