How old is your son?
102.6 taken with a home and non-anal, thermoter is really not that big of deal. Especially if it comes down with tylenol.
If you go to the er, they will take his clothes off to cool his body, feed him tylenol and send you home with a hefty bill.
You don't say that he is behaving strangely, non-reactive and nearly comatose, or even scrunched up and writhing in pain, so I wouldn't worry.
You should worry when the fever is above 104 and won't come down. Or if it lasts 3 or so days. Or if it is accompanied by pain or complete limpness.
To make yourself feel better if he is still running a fever tomorrow call your pediatrician. But unless things drastically change tonight, he is fine.

It truly depends on the age of the child. If it is a newborn, just 100 degrees is a reason to call the doctor - up to 3 months of age. For ages 3 - 6 months, you wouldn't call until the temperature has risen to 101. Over 6 months old, and you don't even call unless it's 103 degrees.
I took my 2 year old to the doctor today because her temp was 105.5 this morning at 4 AM. (Not 100.5 - 105!) I have learned that fever is actually a good thing, because it is the body's way of fighting illness. I have also learned not to freak out about fevers (even though I was today a little) because they usually go away after 2 or 3 days. My 6 year old son was at 105 a few years ago, and it went away after 4 days without anything more than Tylenol. There was no other medication that would treat it. My doctor doesn't even need to see the kids unless it has been 4 days. (A great doctor, trust me - there just isn't a concern about fever.) It also depends on the other symptoms along with the fever.
Remember that fevers are higher at night usually, and Tylenol works better on fevers than Advil. Advil works better on aches and pains. You probably don't need to go to the ER, but a call to your doctor can't hurt. Also, check that the dosage of medication is correct. Just a few pounds of weight change in your baby can make for a different dose. Watch for pee pee diapers, as dehydration can be dangerous.
Good luck, this is just probably one of MANY fevers that your baby will have. But always trust your instinct. If you want to go - go.

A fever requires action if it is over 100.5 I think. I base this on that is the temp that they will send children home from daycare for. If your child has a 103-104 and you can not break it, then a call to the doctor is warrented. Higher-go to ER. My son would run 105-106 fevers for things as silly as ear infections.
Fever's are a GOOD thing. It is your bodies way of fighting infection. Management is key and you might have to try different techniques to find what works at breaking the fever. You want the fever to do its job but not at the cost of causing damage to the body. All must consider age of the child as well. Small infants should have a consultaion for any fever.

Ok you might not want any advice from a 12 yr. old , but here it goes. I think that a fever of 102 is pretty high depending on the age. I'm suggesting go to the ER you never know. Good Luck!!!! Get Well Soon!!!

First off anything over 103 is ER time, secondly how old is your baby? IF he/she is over six months you can give tylenol and Motrin at the same time. They are two different types of drugs but both can help bring down the fever. Make sure to keep the baby full of fluids. Dehydration hits and its hard to stop!Good Luck.

Once your baby has a temperature of 100 or more, call your pediatrician right away!
He/she will give you sound and accurate advice on whether or not you need an emergency room visit. Your son may have a different symptom than a virus, because a virus won't normally cause fevers.

Typically in babies and toddlers it's 102 degrees or above for more then 24 hours, or if it won't go down with Tylenol. Usually if one is running a fever it's because the body is trying to fight the infection so it's not a bad thing. Just make sure he is taking in fluids as to not make him dehydrated. He'll be fine.

I'd consider anything above 101 to be a high fever.
