Why Birds and bees? why not cats and dogs?

I think it would be a little more difficult to explain since cats & dogs are more clearly less able to cross breed. Birds and bees at the very least have a poetic ring to it...besides which the birds & the bees can fly and cross pollenate ....

Birds represent the egg thing fertalization ( woman )
and the bees represent the polonation, or fertalization process ( sperm, male)
