Because in the first series, when we first meet Trigger.....he is talking to Del and asks about his brother, and asks if his name is Dave.....but carries on talking before Del can reply.

It just turned out to be a standing joke, so when ever Trig mentions Dave, no one is ever given the opportunity to correct him....

My favorite episode is the one where Rodney is getting married, and they all come into the pub and shout "3 cheers for Rodney" and you just hear this soft voice off camera "Daaave!"

Trigger is a bit dense. Even after Rodney told him his real name, he didn't believe it. Del always calls Rodney a plonker anyway, so he is a natural target for Trigger's mistake. You wouldn't catch Trigger doing that to Del or Boycie.

A long running gag that culminated with a classic exchange when Rodney tells Trigger what his soon-to-be-born child is going to be called. If it was a girl it was going to be SOMETHING OR OTHER named after Cassandra's mum, orsomeone, and if it was a boy they were gonna call it Rodney after him. Trigger returns to Del and the others to tell them about the girls name and then adds. . . "And if its a boy they're gonna' call him Rodney . . . after Dave"

It was a running joke, as Trigger wasn't the brightest light on the christmas tree.

Because Trigger is a bit dense.

Because Trigger is a 'plonker'. In the series he is portrayed as being 'dim' and forgetful so this re-inforces the image.
