Try doing this:
Start>Settings>ControlPanel
>PowerOptions
There is a tab called Power Schemes and there is a drop list of options, play around with these options until you get the best response. I have mine on Home/ Office Desk because the harddrive turns off after 30 mins, whereas if you have yours on 'always on' it never turns off and makes your system work overtime. Also, make sure you have adequate ventilation under the notebook since this is where the fans are located. Hope this helps.

Compressed air into the vents are one thing you can do.. Be sure to have it on a flat even surface to allow for the best air flow. Makesure it still has all it's rubber feet, if not it won't have adiquit airflow. You can contact dell and get them to send you some (you may have to pay a few bucks if it's not under warrentee).

you might be covering the outlets for the hot air to go out and cool itself, try getting a dock station and it should be a lot better
