Good answer about the German, but I suppose it could also come from the old Danish king, Gorm den Alte (or den Gamle), the last heather king of Denmark. As Gormless is synonymous with Godless it could refer to this, and he was also reputed to be a cruel old dotard, according to wikipedia. Maybe? I don't know.

Well, given that the words endings are negative one can only assume the beginings are posotive.

Gorm must be an accolade,

An i know Ruth's a ho ho ho!!!

No, joke. I believe Gorm is related to the English court, you know back in the day when the guys wore more make up than girls, an yes that is before the days of glam rock.

I'm stuck on Ruth, got a few things that come to mind, keep ya posted

Gorm - old Danish relating to Deity, so Gormless would equate to Godless. Ruth has similar origins and relates to pity, so ruthless would relate to me when I was dumped by a girl called Ruth 28 years ago!

gorm originally comes from the German 'guam' meaning understanding - so gormless means without understanding, intelligence.

Ever considering that i replaced into little and til at present i have continually observed as my mum "Mummy" and my dad "Daddy". basically because they under no circumstances responded to "mum"/"dad". and that's continually stuck, i think. similar with my siblings, too. I swear anytime my mom calls me at paintings, and that i answer saying "hi, mummy", i'm getting the most strangest looks from my paintings colleagues. They continually locate that hilarious and many times take the mic. and that i'll honestly see why that's humorous lol yet, that's under no circumstances replaced, and that i doubt it is going to. parents will continually be Mummy and Daddy. And specifically because they received't reply to something else from their little ones! : )
