It's not just men. My missus is the footy nut in our house and when she comes in and starts banging on about Forest, I just feign interest for as long as I can (30 secs) and then give her a benign distant look which means "the lights are on but nobody is home". She generally shuts up when she sees that.

Absolutely true! Good observation. What straight man would ever want to see men running around in shorts anyway? Sounds really, really like latent homosexuality to me.

well, I watch the Rugby League myself, and I always say "Oh St Helens beat Castleford 26-17" for example. its just that football supprters tend to see themselves playing for the squad, apart from just watching it!
