It's not just men. My missus is the footy nut in our house and when she comes in and starts banging on about Forest, I just feign interest for as long as I can (30 secs) and then give her a benign distant look which means "the lights are on but nobody is home". She generally shuts up when she sees that.

well, I watch the Rugby League myself, and I always say "Oh St Helens beat Castleford 26-17" for example. its just that football supprters tend to see themselves playing for the squad, apart from just watching it!
