I am doing my personal statement and applying for business related degrees. The main reasons i want to do a business related degree is to open up my own business, but is it ok to just put that reason on your personal statement? What other reason do people do business / economics related degrees?

Is it a good idea to say i want to own my own business because i want to be my own boss and not spend my life making money for someone else.

Most people study business because business majors get jobs. Some do it because they want the knowledge that will allow them to start their own business or do work that they enjoy.

Since you are interested in starting your own business -- concentrate on that. It is the kind of things B-Schools admissions officers like to see.

It is good to state in a personal statement your reasons for opening a business, this can include: the overall economy, creating jobs for your community, and becoming a leader.
Students like to choose business as a program because either their parents have a business they would like to continue or they know this is an industry they can be their own boss and it is so broad you can really do anything with it. Good luck!
