Can someone tell me about how the statue of liberty's original face looked like an african-american face and why sculpture artists were ordered to change it?

The, scultptor Bartholdi based it on the stern look of his mother and he used his wife to model it. No one asked him to change it. maybe it looked African American because it use to be copper until it rusted and then they cleaned it.

The statue was built by the French for America. The face has never been changed it. The statue is in the Roman/Greek style of presentation. The face is "Classical" like a goddess statue you would find in an ancient temple in one of those countries. It was built to acknowledge the immigration policies of the US, which, historically, have been "open door", allowing everyone in.http://www.statueofliberty.org/Statue_History.html

NO!! the original statue of liberty was a present from France to commemorate the friendship of the countries it was given on the hundred anniversary of independence

I think you have been misinformed by someone with an Afro-centrist agenda. You hear much that is distorted, that comes from sloppy scholarship.
