I have about 40k saved I might be able to get another 10k from friends and family. I might be able to get a small business loan ... probably not but maybe. Any one have any small business ideas that wouldn't cost much more then 40 or 50k?

open a fast food restaurant..
if you open a small business for services, you can keep all your costs under 20k...like travel agency, job agency...etc You basically just pay for the rent & ads

If you don't have a clue, I would look around for some one that needs a small investment for their business.
Starting a business based on what you know about the business is critical. Since you know nothing about what you want to do, I am assuming you have no experience.
That being said, look at ideas born from others that know what they want. Invest in them.
One business that seems to be popular but needs a certain amount of experience with little investment is: Voice, Data, and Video cabling. Relatively simple, no big licensing (low voltage contractor lic), fairly easy to understand and like I said, start up with low investment dollars.

There's always service-related businesses. My uncle started a small painting company, and it's worked out pretty well for him. He could build it up if he wanted to, but he's getting close to retirement, and seems happy with what he's got.

appears like you've the resources, what you should do is get some pipe corrals, fence off some pasture land and do slightly horse boarding. As for the minature horse employer, it must be difficult. there is not alot of call for as we talk for the mini's, a minimum of not in CA, and there is alot that is going into breeding, searching after a pregnant mare, foaling, etc., so your costs must be extreme and your advantages must be low.

Go to bizbuysell.com and look for businesses. There are many businesses which are listed under 50k. Ofcourse, it also depends on what state/city you are living in. Also, google it dude.
