In sent an email to someone, and it gave them my full name, Yhey got my address, phone number, and date of birth. Where did they get this information? And is it legal for them to do this?

If you 'google' your own name, you will see lots of stuff you don't expect to see online.
You can remove it by editing the account.

File it systematically. These records are required off and on while accepting a job, to open a bank account etc. So, don't put them in a bank locker. It is better if you keep it locked in your cupboard safe and keep the key only where you'd know where it is. If you're married or living with your parents...trust your spouse or parents regarding the location of that key. This can come in handy if you're out and require some of the information on the phone - then they can get it for you. But only tell someone you totally trust.

Another option is to tell them where the key is when u call up and after returning change the place where u hide it.

Yes. That is all public record. It isn't too difficult to find that information on anyone. If they're good they can get your work history, driving history, and credit history too. Its all out there....
