it's possible. your period basically stops while you are in the water. I would be careful when you are sitting around on the deck waiting for your race, etc. I used to do this all the time before tampons. Try to always keep a towel wrapped around your waist if you are worried about it. Don't sit out of the meet, there is no reason. I went 8 years of swimming with a team and dind't use tampons, I NEVER had a problem.
Good luck.

Sorry I hate to say it but tampons are really the best option...
There's a high likelihood of embarrassing situation with using a pad instead.
Buy a smallish box, or knick a couple from mum, older sister etc. and try it first til you're not too worried and then keep some to use only when you have to swim with your period :)
Periods can be annoying sometimes, but its easy enough. Don't panic!

It's perfectly okay for you to go swim while you're on your period. I understand that you don't use tampons, but most girls who go swimming do or they use a special cup that they place inside that holds the flow,(sorry don't know what it's called) but anyway you should not worry because once you get into the water, your flow will stop. It's like taking a bath. You don't have a flow while your sitting in the water, but I do suggest after you're done with your meet to go straight into the bathroom and put a fresh pad on. :)

Try tampons for your swim meet. The cold water might slow it down a bit but you might get a gush as you stand up!

if i was a girl and you i would wear tampons as it blocks the period from being released into the water and feels more comfertable rather than having your period in the pads and swimming, i dont think its hygenic unless you got those special ones

Dont use a pad in the water. It would just be a soggy mess. Tampons are painless and you dont feel it if you insert it in correctly.

well the best thing to do is wear a tampon, but you don't bleed in water, i have no clue why but u don't, so as long as u stay in the water u ok wearing nothing, that is if u don't want to wear a tampon, but if ur not going to be in the water the whole time i suggest a tampon

you're going to have to use a tampon or sit out. otherwise to go in the water without any protection (depending on how heavy your flow is) you might end up with blood around you in the water. yuck
