Well, our extended family likes to play board and card games. After years of playing different ones, we have quite a few favorites like Scrabble, Monopoly, Pictionary, Po-keno (a card game similar to Bingo) and our all-time favorite, Scattergories. They are low-stress games that encourage everyone to get involved and have fun together. Hope you guys have a great Christmas holiday!

You could have a tree decorating party. Ask everyone to bring an ornament and cookies, something festive to eat. Set a dollar limit on the ornament. Or have supplies to make ornaments. Toilet paper rolls, glue glitter, misc. craft supplies. Craft stores always have plenty of things that are inexpensive. Kids will love this! Also, Mitch Miller and the Gang (this is really old) has a good Christmas Album. You may be able to purchase this from Amazon.com There's one song, Must be Santa, it goes "Who has a big red cherry nose?" Then children sign "Santa has a big red cherry nose. " Then there's another verse, with a response, this always fun to play and have a family sing along. Ok...it's corny, but it's the holidays! One group sings the questions, the other group sings the answers..... Does this help you?

My family does an auction grab bag that we have a lot of fun with. Everyone brings whatever items they want in the grab bag. Some are silly, funny, nice. Then everyone is given 100 pennies to bid on auction items. If there is an item no one really wants, people can bid on it to give to another person as a joke. Often we see some items over and over again each year. It really gets funny. There are usually some very nice items too ... things you can get at the dollar store (so everyone can participate), like new year pocket calanders, a candle, etc.

First, a buffet. Include some vegetarian dishes for you more discerning relatives. Have reg. coffee and decaf coffee (sugar and an artficial sweetener as well), hot chocolate, and a regular and diet soda on hand. Mix and burn a Xmas CD with classic songs on it, have it playing on low volume on your stereo. Go to a dollar store and buy matching decorations...strategically placed candles and the lights low are a good touch. Have some light pine and/or cinnamon incense burning or potpourri. Try to have the atmosphere as christmassy as you can, and everyone in your family will have a good time.

Instead of buying gifts for everyone in the family(excluding kids) do a Secret Santa idea. Everyone buy a gift with no name written on it, then draw numbers out of a hat or whatever you want to do and put numbers on the gift and you have to get the gift with your number on it.
That way everyone gets a gift and it you have fun doing it.
