As fun as Yahoo Answers is, it has made me concerned about the state of education these days. I don't profess to be an expert on the English language. However the depth of the spelling and grammatical errors at times is crazy sometimes. Many of the "questions" aren't even properly formed questions. Sometimes I don't even know what someone is trying to ask. I make a mistake in grammar or spelling once in while, but if you're trying to communicate with people at least learn how to structure a sentence in a HALFway decent manner. Know what I MEEN? ;)

The two words sound similar. If you haven't taken a proper English class, or just slept through all the ones you did, then you might not know the difference in spelling. Also many of the people on this site don't speak English that well because they are from other countries. So some people might really be that stupid, but the majority of people are just making an honest mistake.

Assuming that we are talking here about the concept of dividing something into two equal pieces, the word "half" is a noun, adjective or adverb. To discribe the act of dividing something into two equal pieces, a verb is needed, which is this case is "halve".

Since "have" and "halve" SOUND very similar, and "have" is a much more commonly used word than "halve", I suspect that many people use the word "have" without realizing that "halve" is really the word they need to use.
