what do you think should be the focus of American foreign policy?

1. Moral Idealism focuses on what is 'right' to do (e.g., anti-slavery stance). It tends to avoid compromises and deals with absolutes.

2. Political Realism focuses on what may be accomplished thru negotiations (e.g., do you ignore human rights violations and try to use trade to influence their policies). It tends to avoid absolutes and concentrate on compromises.

I'd say that 'realism' rarely works. It just tends to end up supporting a bunch of bad people.

moral idealism is knowing something is right and wanting to do it. But for what ever reason not being able to do, Political realism is wanting to do the right thing but seeing what is possible to do and going for the possible
