I will agree with the fella above me and say Miami is very dangerous. (I read his article and it's dated 1981...I thought the population numbers sounded a bit low, so I checked it out. Honestly though, it's pretty accurate and the city hasn't changed much in these 25 years since that article came out. One thing he forgot...the drugs! Oh my, are they running rampant down here and they are one of the main reasons for all the murders and I heard that on the news just 3 days ago.) It is also terribly expensive to live, to go out, to do anything. You can't even wash your own car at a self-service car wash...unless you go to a gas station drive through. Every service takes forever, like getting your oil changed on a Tues morning. No line, but it's an hour. Not 10 minutes like in other cities.
While I feel the beaches are probably the best in the US since I'm not much of a west coast fan (I like the tropical blue water), the crime rate scares the mess out of me! Do not watch the news because it is ridden with the most heinous stories imagineable, serial rapists, they caught one, there's another, mother gets run over at bus stop, hit and run happens all the time, driver flees, stray bullets shoot this guy or that Miami football player (I know that one wasn't stray), but seriously, those are things I worry about when I leave my front door! Along with which non-insured motorist (1 in 3 is insured) is going to try to hit me and/or run me off the road! If traffic signs were in Spanish, I think we'd be a lot better. If you move here, God be with you. If it weren't for the military, I wouldn't be living here.

Rent for a 2 bedroom apartment in Miami is around $1,400. To find afordable Housing ..You have to live up in Homestead..30 miles away...

Positives: Great climate, nightlife, multi-cultural community, great food. Good for those with money or good paying jobs.
Negavites: Few good paying jobs, most jobs are in the service industry for hotels, restaurants, tourisim. High crime rate for population size. Poor government, too much corruption and disorganization. Middle class popluation leaving area.
See Time magazine article on subject http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,922693,00.html
When the FBI issued its annual list of the ten most crime-ridden cities in the nation last September, three of them were in South Florida: Miami (pop. 347,000) was in first place, West Palm Beach (pop. 63,000) was fifth and Fort Lauderdale (pop. 153,000) was eighth. Miami last year had the nation's highest murder rate, 70 per 100,000 residents, and this year's pace has been even higher.
