Between 20 and 60? I think the gifts would vary drastically if buying for that wide age bracket! But here are a few things that I think MOST women would like to have:
1. A box of chocolates
2. A compact lighted mirror (small enough to fit in purse)
3. Scented candles
4. A food processer (fairly costly, but you didn't mention any
dollar range)
5. Floral arrangement of dried flowers in a crystal vase
6. Box of assorted nail polish or manicure set
7. A waterpic
8. Facial care kit (exfoliator, mask and moisturizer)
9. A bed buddy (not what you think. This is a heating device
made out of sock material and stuffed with rice
that you heat in the microwave. It stays hot for
about forty minutes and is great to place on
sore muscles.)
10. A gift certificate in any amount for Wal-Mart, Target, or JC
Penny
That's my top 10 list, hope one of them work out!

If you have a Target, take a look at the One Spot. There are a lot of cute knick knacky things that you can put together.
Or make a basket that has a theme like "A Night In" with some vic's popcorn or a bag of popcorn, some candy, and a gift card to blockbuster with some fuzzy socks and maybe a mug with hot cocoa.
Don't get to stressed, though. The point of the game is to be light with it and have fun!
Good luck!

Hm, if price is no issue, you can find nice makeup pallettes at Sephora.com. Generally, they compliment all skin tones and have varying shades, and are unscented unless otherwise marked. Search under the heading "holiday gift sets." I've seen a few in there for anywhere from $18 to $40. Anything scented should usually be avoided because you have no way of knowing whether or not the person is allergic.

What is your price range? That's going to play a HUGE role in selecting a gift for someone you don't know.
Stick with impersonal items. If it's a budget gift, try:
A potted poinsetta plant
A box of assorted chocolates
A variety pack of occassion cards
A gift card to a fast food restaurant
If you are able to spend more, try:
A bottle of wine
A gift certificate for 2 to the movies
A gadget that melts the ice in locks or something like that
Merry Christmas!

That depends if she is a girly girl or not. And what state you live in. If she's girly girl, and you live near a bath and body works or victoria secrets....your set. At victoria secret, try a scent called love spell. Bath and Body works....try a scent called cucumber melon or sweet pea. If she's not a girly girl....how about movie tickets? or something of that nature.

Target or similar store gift card. That gives her the option to choose her taste and her colors in whatever she picks. Either way she ends up with what she likes and not what you think she might like. It's a win win situation.
Good luck!
