Absolutely, the BBC is definately left wing. So too, are the rest of the terrestrial channels. I wouldn't go as far as stating that it has been left wing since the fifties. I think that it was, at that time, very much the voice of the establishment. Very proper, and not anti-American or anti-Monarchy. I noticed the left wing bias starting to come through in the 1980's. Now, it has become the indoctrinating voice of this government (Blair & Iraq excluded) and the lefty PC brigade et al.

No. Invariably it's 'impartiality' fluctuates according to who is in power, but the 'left' have had just as much to complain about as those of right wing thinking. Whilst a number of 'lefties' were employed by the BBC in the 50s/60s/70/s this started to change in the 80's.
It must be pointed out here that just because the BBC does not necessarily transmit your views on a subject that automatically it is biased... Recent news and other programmes showing the Israeli incursion into Lebanon being a good example... both sides were criticised, as were a number of world politicians.
But, the BBC will never make everyone happy... you can please some of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time.

It's very hard to believe that any news channel is unbiased since they largely depend on funding from bosses who like to have hands on control and a certain amount of political influence.
It would be interesting to get an inside view of the core decision makers on programming and content within the BBC hierarchy, and more importantly to hear from the governor a candid expose of the political relationship within the inner sanctums of the institution between various government departments and academics working behind the scenes. It would also be interesting to have privvy to minutes of meetings between cabinet staff and the BBC inner sanctum.
Until there is more transparency I can't see the public ever trusting the BBC as a truly independent news channel. Infact it is a monopoly of news, run by the government for the government.

Good grief yes, BBC news is biased as can be and will never miss an opportunity to slate any politician who even hints at scrapping the licence fee. As a publicly funded organisation they are very cagey about releasing details of their finances.
It also has a politically correct attitude when employing presenters it appears they are more interested in demographic representation than actually employing someone because they are good at their job.

No it only started in the sixties. I blame the rolling Stones, personally. Everything in Britain seemed to go down the pan from the first time the Rolling Stones appeared on TV.

What WOULD worry me though, is that every BBC programme has a higher percentage of ethnic people than the UK actually has. It's like , they are trying to brainwash us into thinking it's normal.

Have you noticed the way it only ever shows injured palestinian children, probably faked.
Never do we see the victims of bus bombings or rocket attacks in israel.
A very good point by "incongru",a disproportionat amount of ethnic minorities crowd all bbc programmes.I even saw a childrens education programme showing a negro in a ww1 officers uniform.Could this be the left trying to rewrite history?!

Yes you are right! They are swayed by the Government. The BBC board is appointed by the government and its income is controlled by the government, making its claims to independence/impartial ridiculous!!!!!!.

Very left wing so much so that Richard Dimbleby was once thought to be a communist along with other core members of the 1950's establishment.

I certainly agree with you,one only has to listen to their biased news programmes to see this, what you are now seeing is the result of allowing trendy "lefties"into positions of trust!
