Last friday, when I was walking from the parking lot to the building I work in (near downtown L.A.), and I saw a homeless guy on his knees, praying. I started thinking about how bad it must be for him. He was desperation epitomized. He was still in the same spot when I went to lunch, when I got back from lunch, and when I left to go home that afternoon. He was there all day. I wish I had done something, but I don't know what I could have done.

A couple weeks before that, some girl jumped off the roof of our building. Apparently, she took off all of her clothes and ran full speed off the ledge. I heard she was only 26, which is only a year older than me. I felt pity for her...I can't imagine what she must have gone through to decide that her life must end.

You know...this building is kind of depressing. I should get a new job. The ironic thing about this is there's a big sign on the building that says "City of Hope."

I don't pity people anymore - we just aren't worth it. Seven years ago I saw someone down the road from me bring home a sweet little puppy for their kids to play with and take care of. The puppy was a mutt - there was just too many different breeds in him to be able to tell what he was - and it was a sweet-tempered, playful puppy that grew into a skittish, timid, and unpredictable dog. Why? Because those "precious" brats abused him. They rarely remembered to feed him - he got most of his food from the trash and water from the ditch in front of their house - and their idea of "playing with the dog" was to throw sticks, rocks, anything heavy and hard that they could get their hands on at him, to chain him up and put food or water just out of his reach, and this is them being nice - I'm NOT going into detail on how they got when didn't love him as much as usual. One day the dog snapped. One of the kids was mauled and scarred for life and the dog was put to death. That brat kid got what he deserved. Say what you want, but he was the youngest kid and at 8 years old, he knew better and at 11 and 13 years old, his siblings knew better, too. At 47 and 50 years old, their parents knew better, but still said nothing about how their kids treated anyone or anything else. I wish that dog had had a chance to get each and every single one of them before he was killed. That dog never did anything to deserve to be treated so cruelly his entire life, but they didn't care. There was suddenly people puttin gout flyers and speaking about vicious animals and how our pets can "turn on us at any minute, without warning or cause", and the family got so much pity and sympathy, and, stupidly enough, "empathy' from the general community as a whole and I still sometimes hear some of my neighbors talking about "that poor kid" and how "horrible it was" that the dog attacked him, but no one was interested in hearing about how abused the dog was, except me and several others. That was when I realized that people don't deserve pity. So, seven years ago was when I'd last pitied anyone or anything and I pitied that poor dog.

i have felt sorrow for many, but not pity, empathy maybe. there but for spirit go i. pity ( to me) sets me above someone and i'm looking at them from outside and above. the last time i empathized with someone was a week or so ago. there is a homeless man who i had seen several times outside the market, it was beginning to get cold, he had asked me for 50 cents before and i honestly didn't have any money, so i had to tell him no. he didn't ask me that night, i literally had $5, i needed dinner and i was off the next day. i had a free buffet coupon but i had to tip.($3) i bought ramen noodles and gave him $1. it wasn't much but i just moved and money is VERY tight. i miss 2 paychecks i'm where he is. it's not how much you do, it's the fact that you do something.

I feel pity for someone every day. I pity old people who outlived all their peers, I pity people who survive solely on the goodwill of others, I pity children who are terminally ill, i pity ignorant people.

I feel pity most every day. I see people in the hospital, the nightly news, any time I feel like an injustice has been done.

I stopped to help tow a gentleman off the road. It was a Monday morning during rush hour and people were just pissed, and honking cause he was the reason for the traffic back up. I towed him a few miles to his work place, when we got there, he tried to start his truck again, a rod went through his oil pan. Come to find out, his wife and he moved to the local area, because she has breast cancer, and just wanted to enjoy life out of New Mexico. So now, they are one car down, she was in remission but relapsed, and my heart just went out to the guy. The next 30 minutes of my drive home, made me so thankful for what I have, health wise, and thankful that I have had a decent life where I don't have to life paycheck to paycheck. Made me want to start doing things my counselor has suggested... pay it forward... my old boss use to tell me this, and it makes one smile within, when you see someone that you made their day.

When I found out that my little Nephew-in-Law doesn't have a bed to sleep on, a sofa to sit on, a table to eat on, and shares a king bed with his Mom and other brother. They only have a small studio. I wouldn't call it pity though, it's more like sorrow. Plus, he's had a hard life on top of it. =(

I feel pity for people who seem vulnerable. I want them to be happy. Yes, even strangers! I feel pity all the time.

I dont pity people, If they are in need I just help them or direct them to someone who can help them, pitying people does nothing to help their situation, sometimes you find out people are not always what you think..
