I think the trendy thing to do now, is to find a band that no one listens to.

I hate it because when My fave bands got famous..
all these people say they love them more than me even when i found out about them years before they did and know everything about them..

Posers really piss the living **** out of me.
it's annoying how they say your fave band is theirs ,when they can only name one song, comapred to me who knows all the lyrics to all their songs.

They say they love the band but the actual fact is that they just want to drool over the lead singer which i bearly payed attention to.

While I agree it is trendy to find something no one else listens to, I find it kind of dumb, as you would show it to someone else and then you are already making it more popular.

I personally don't like when people come up to me after Ive been listening to a band for years and all of sudden everyones trying to show me they are the "numba one supa fan" by spitting facts at me, based of the major label album.I don't mind if someone says "check out this band" or something like that, Ill tell em about the other albums, whats good etc. But when small offbeat things go into the mainstream, I'm bombarded with crap and I just have the feeling of"been there done that", its like when a style comes back into fashion.Your mom knows what a fedora is, don't try to teach her about it.

That and as a musician, I don't like a bunch of bands that get signed because the label is just grabbing flavor of the months. Other bands are trying to be the flavor of the month, and get signed that way.And then there are bands that have enormous talent, and will never go anywhere.

That and I really don't accept bad vocals. And theres a lot of that today.Rappers speak in monotone, with bad lyrics, Pop stars don't even write their own material and if they do they often cant sing it without a studio trick here and there, and kids in metal bands need to stop screaming non stop.

For some people the coolness of a band partly lies in the fact that only an inside group of people know about it and are ahead of the curve. It's like being in a secret club or something. Once everyone likes them, the fun is over, even if you like the music. Not saying it applies to everyone, but it's definitely how some people think.

They make a band part of their identity. A not famous band make them unique in their taste. And when they become famous it makes them feel like their are not unique anymore and so they start hating the band. And look for other unknown ones.

Is it not the opposite way around? Just Kidding. Probably because the band loses what makes them popular and gives in to the record label. The members could become conceited and they lose their fans. Other than that, I guess your right :)

This is a repeat of the 90s when people were obsessed with all things 'indie'. I can relate though. Now so many bands are manufactured by companies that it is hard to take them seriously.

Simply because most popular music is garbage. Look at Metallica, before they were huge, their music was awesome. Once they exploded and got all rich and comfy, their music suffered and now it is the worst. Same goes for most bands, once they make it big and start making obscene amounts of money, they lose the edge that made them good in the first place.

I think its cuz alot of bands try to fit in one genre, which limits the listening audience.Alot of people I know listen to mix-why bands continue to isolate into one genre is beyond myself.

That "practice" is actually nothing new. It's a thought process of many hardcore fans of any given band or artist that when they achieve fame, they feel as if they must "share" their hero w/ teh masses & that their hero will "leave" his or her core fans behind.

This is where the thinking stems from.

The Red hot chili peppers are totally not sell outs even if KISS FM plays them...... but w/e.... as long as a bands music is good they cant b a sell out...... plus its kinda selfish of people 2 call some bands sell outs coz theyre not the only people who like them........... so just coz they "discovered" some band, and the band makes it big doesnt mean the band is catering 2 a different kind of audience..... they cant help it...... but w/e....... people shouldnt just like bands because theyre "unknown" but because theyre GOOD.
