When I ws 6 my grandma had been piecing a quilt for me for years, once it was finished she could no longer use her fingers well enough to quilit it. There was a little old lady next door to us, she agreed to finish my quilt and I would go to her home every morning before school and thread needles for her and the same after school so she could quilt. She was always making a small batch of lye soap. My son climbed a hill at his step grandpa's house after being told not to and it was covered with poison ivy. His new grandpa grabbed on to him and scrubbed him up good with lye soap and he never broke out at all. He was 6 then and now he is 42 and still remembers that scrubbing with the lye soap.

Atwoods usually carries it by the register, I can't remember the price seems like $2.95 or $3.95 a bar, Ebay also has it.
