With a new moon, the moon seems to be in the same region of the sky as the sun, therefore the sun is shining on, what apears to us, to be the back of the moon. Because of this, we see no reflected light, and don't see the moon.
It,s the same reason that an ecclipse of the sun only occurs on a new moon (check) and an ecclipse of the moomn only occurs on a full moon (check that too)
The time that the moon is new, is not always day, neither is it always night.
Think about it for a while, and you will begin to see the model

no (daytime) because the moon is in direct line of sight of the sun blocking the suns rays. no daytime. although a new moon can appear at day or night depending on orbital distances of the earth and the moon from the sun. ( hi sue )

Day and night is caused by the rotation of Earth, not the moon blocking out the sun. When one side of the Earth is facing the sun; it is day there; when one side of the Earth is facing away from the sun, it is night.

One side of the Earth will always face the sun. The new moon is visible mostly during daylight hours. For instance, at midnight, the new moon is below the horizon, so you can't see it.
