He actually gives money out to various places which in turn will eventually be put back into the economy. That money he disperses will reenter the economy through banks in some way and evetually effect the money supply and demand which keeps the economy running smoothly. Sorry that's all i can really think of right now.

The angle you need to take is that the purpose of technology is to increase ECONOMIC PRODUCTIVITY. That's ALL technology does; that's the whole point of it. In other words, it improves how well available resources are employed in satisfying peoples' needs. Bill Gates symbolizes this and the company he created accomplishes this with its Windows and office software.

And trust me, people in offices everyday accomplish work that would have been completely impossible or would have required enormous resources 30 years ago, thanks to modern PCs and software.

If Microsoft had never existed maybe other software companies would have accomplished the same thing, but that's beside the point, because it's Microsoft that outcompeted and killed them, and so its Microsoft that is accomplishing the benefit.

I personally don't think it's worthwhile to say he's created 50,000 jobs (though he has), because if the PC revolution had never occurred, those people would still be employed doing something (something less productive).

Before Bill Gates the economy was fueled by the technology of the space age. Then along came Bill and he lit the fire of computer technology and that has kept the technology fire burning. Who knows when or if ever that fire will burn out.
