Sounds like your little one may be moving into position. It's hard work turning and twisting to get into the right position :-). Once there, the movement may slow down as there will not be much room. I think you may be getting close. Good luck to you!

I don't want to scare you..and I am sure I am probably wrong...but I have had three children and I have never had one move THAT much. If this was sudden, if your baby usually moves a lot less and then suddenly is moving like that...please please go to the ER. I looked it up too, to be sure not to scare you for no reason and found this :
Fetal movements in utero are an expression of fetal well-being. However, a sudden increase of fetal movements is a sign of acute fetal distress, such as in cases of cord complications or abruptio placentae. This sudden surge of activity calls for you to see your health-care provider immediately. Sometimes mothers report excessive fetal movement before cessation of all fetal movement. It is possible for a baby to get tangled in the cord, or a knot can develop in the cord, slowing or stopping blood flow to the baby.
A non-stress test can be done that would monitor your baby's heart rate and uterine and fetal activity for 30 to 45 minutes. Though your baby may just be going through a very active period, I think this is worth getting checked out for your peace of mind.

Fetal movement is one indicator of fetal health. Contrary to a common myth, it is not normal for a fetus to stop moving with the onset of labor. Although the average number of kicks is about four to six per hour, each fetus and mother are different. Each woman should find the usual pattern and number of movements for her individual pregnancy. A change in the normal pattern or number of fetal movements may indicate the fetus is under stress.

Consider calling your doctor if this increase in movement is sudden or abnormal for this pregnancy.
Babies usually slow down at the end to get into position to be born and also because there is very little room left to move around.
It's better safe than sorry. Good luck.

My last one moved around a lot about 2 weeks before he was born - they said it was him getting into position for birth. Also depends on how much room there is - small babies have more room to move than large ones etc!
Good luck and I wish you a beautiful birth!!

I've only experienced them slowing down - I would tend to agree with those women who asked if you had eaten anything that might stimulate activity... but if all of that activity is any indication of how busy he is going to be - then look out!

Actually as he gets bigger and starts to run out of room to do all those fancy moves, you will feel him less. Right before my due date my son was just trying to adjust himself, but all those somersaults were gone.

Usually near the end they don't move much as they don't have enough room...did you eat something sweet or cold...that may be making it move more
