It's not meant to be nasty or anything ... but before I left for the Army I was a virgin ... 17 yrs old ... not really into the whole dating scene ... my Auntie and I are super close ... she gave me some advice that day I'll never forget ... she sat me down & had the most serious look in her eyes ... she turned towards me and said " Jennifer, I know you're a virgin & I know you're going to want to have sex over there in Germany, but remember the only way you'll come home NOT pregnant is if you just take in the @ss ... that's it ... nothing else ... take in the rear and you'll never have any problems ... lol ... I couldn't stop laughing ... tears were running down my face ... and you know what ... she was right ... if I just would have listened I wouldn't have a 4 yr old today ... our family has a strange sense of humor ... sorry ... !

A long time ago, and many failed or unsatisfactory relationships later, the advice from my brother's first business partner comes to mind: When considering marriage or a civil partnership, think first whether you would enter into a business partnership with this person. If they are feckless, lazy, and unreliable, no amount of cuteness would let you do it. Yet every day people get married or move in with wives or husbands or civil partners, when those same people would not enter into a business relationship. In the end, money comes between the most romantically inclined couples, especially when one member of the marriage feels the other is not pulling their weight.

The sleep and anger advice would go poorly at my house. Lack of sleep causes me to become even more irrational and angry.
However, to answer your question I have been given several very useful tidbits of advice. But the one my mother gave me is the most used. "Pick your fights." Is it worth fighting over? No, get over it and move on. Yes, stand your ground until they agree or a compromise can be reached.

"Never put yourself in a situation where other people are to blame for your failure". that has helped me to remember to always accept responsibility when I fail and to always do my own work.
